Industry Executive Colin Duncan Joins SafeStart Board

Safety industry leader and experienced executive Colin Duncan has joined the SafeStart Board of Directors in an advisory role.

Duncan joined SafeStart as an advisor in June 2017 to help the company expedite a key part of their vision—to become the global leader in preventing injuries 24/7, which aligns squarely with Duncan’s views. “I have personally been committed for many years to ensuring companies see their safety role ‘outside the gates’ as much as inside,” Duncan said.

Duncan brings extensive leadership and operational experience in the safety service sector having served for several years as Chief Executive Officer of industry leader BST, and subsequently DEKRA Insight following the acquisition of BST. In that role, he oversaw operations and acquisitions in occupational safety, process safety, safety software and human reliability. Duncan is also considered an expert in the safety industry, frequently writing articles on strategy, safety and leadership as well as being a sought-after presenter at conferences globally.

“SafeStart has built a strong reputation for partnering with its clients to prevent injuries on and off the job,” Duncan added. SafeStart officially launched in 1998 from the family-run company Electrolab Limited. Evolved out of the need to address the unintentional human factors that are involved in the majority of incidents and injuries—a key contributor that traditional safety programs don’t address, SafeStart teaches safety awareness and personal safety skills development to fill that gap.

“No matter how far you’ve taken your company, you cannot expect to have all the skills and knowledge your business needs to change as your business grows,” stated Barb Tait, co-owner of SafeStart. “With Colin’s assistance, we will be able to do even more to ensure workers, their families and communities are better protected and in doing so fulfill our mission to make the world safer.”
