1. Information Collection and Use

Basic Account Information: When you create or reconfigure an account, you provide some personal information, such as your name, username, password, email address, or phone number.

Contact Information: You may use your contact information, such as your email address or phone number, to customize your account or enable Services, for example, for login verification, or for communications via SMS. If you provide Electrolab with your mobile phone number, you agree to receive SMS messages to that number from Electrolab. Electrolab may use your contact information to send you information about the Services, to market to you, to help prevent spam, fraud, or abuse, and to help administrators find your account, including through third-party services and client applications. You may use your settings for email and mobile notifications to control notifications you receive from the Services. You may also unsubscribe from a notification by following the instructions contained within the notification or the instructions on Electrolab’s website. If you email us, Electrolab may keep your message, email address and contact information to respond to your request.

Form submissions and other Information: the Services are primarily to provide you with information and materials related to our products and services. Your visible information may include your username, comments you submit, and the metadata provided with submissions, such as when the information was submitted; the language, country and time zone associated with your account; and many other bits of information that result from your use of the Services. Electrolab may use this information to make inferences, such as topics you may be interested in, and to customize the Services. Electrolab gives you the option to delete your information, or cancel your account at any time, or make the information more private if you want. You can change profile information, the language and time zone associated with your account at any time using your profile settings. When you share information or content via the Services, you should think carefully about what you are making visible.

Location Information: Electrolab may receive information about your location. For example, when you create your SafeStart.com account, the registration process may tell Electrolab your location. Electrolab may also determine location by using other data from your device, such as precise location information from GPS, information about wireless networks or cell towers near your mobile device, or your IP address. Electrolab may use and store information about your location to provide features of the Services, and to improve and customize the Services.

Links: Electrolab may keep track of how you interact with links across the Services, including Electrolab’s email and SMS notifications, third-party services, and client applications, by redirecting clicks or through other means. Electrolab does this to help improve the Services and to be able to share aggregate click statistics such as how many times a particular link was clicked on.

Cookies: Like many websites, Electrolab uses cookies and similar technologies to collect additional website usage data and to improve the Services. A cookie is a small data file that is transferred to your computer or mobile device. Electrolab may use both session cookies and persistent cookies to better understand how you interact with the Services, to monitor aggregate usage by Electrolab’s users and web traffic routing on the Services, and to customize and improve the Services. Although most web browsers automatically accept cookies, some browsers’ settings can be modified to decline cookies or alert you when a website is attempting to place a cookie on your computer. However, some Services may not function properly if you disable cookies.

2. Information Sharing and Disclosure

User Consent or Direction: Electrolab may share or disclose your information at your direction, such as when you authorize a third-party web client or application to access your account. If you’ve shared information with another user or organization who accesses the Services through a third-party service, keep in mind that the information may be shared with the third-party service.

Service Providers: Electrolab engages service providers to perform functions and provide services to Electrolab in Canada, the United States, and other countries. Electrolab may share your private personal information with such service providers subject to obligations consistent with this Policy and any other appropriate confidentiality and security measures, and on the condition that the third parties use your private personal data only on Electrolab’s behalf and pursuant to Electrolab’s instructions.

Law and Harm: Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in this Policy, Electrolab may preserve or disclose your information if Electrolab believes that it is reasonably necessary to comply with a law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request; to protect the safety of any person; to address fraud, security or technical issues; or to protect Electrolab’s rights or property. However, nothing in this Policy is intended to limit any legal defenses or objections that you may have to a third party’s, including a government’s, request to disclose your information.

Business Transfers and Affiliates: In the event that Electrolab is involved in a bankruptcy, merger, acquisition, reorganization or sale of assets, your information may be sold or transferred as part of that transaction. This Policy will apply to your information as transferred to the new entity. Electrolab may also disclose information about you to Electrolab’s corporate affiliates in order to help provide, understand, and improve the Services and Electrolab’s affiliates’ services.

Non-Private or Non-Personal Information: Electrolab may share or disclose your non-private, aggregated or otherwise non-personal information, such as your public information, after Electrolab has removed any private personal information (such as your name or contact information).

3. Accessing and Modifying Your Personal Information

If you are a registered user of the Services, Electrolab provides you with tools and account settings to access, correct, delete, or modify the personal information you provided to Electrolab and associated with your account.

You can also permanently delete your account. When your account is deactivated, it is not viewable on the Services. Absent a separate arrangement between you and Electrolab to extend your deactivation period, Electrolab will begin the process of deleting your account from Electrolab’s systems, which can take up to a week.

Keep in mind that search engines and other third parties may still retain copies of your public information, even after you have deleted the information from the Services or deactivated your account.

4. Data retention

We will only retain your personal data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for, including for the purposes of satisfying any legal, accounting, or reporting requirements.

To determine the appropriate retention period for personal data, we consider the amount, nature, and sensitivity of the personal data, the potential risk of harm from unauthorized use or disclosure of your personal data, the purposes for which we process your personal data and whether we can achieve those purposes through other means, and the applicable legal requirements.

By law we have to keep basic information about our customers (including Contact, Identity, Financial and Transaction Data) for seven years after they cease being customers for tax purposes.

In some circumstances you can ask us to delete your data: see 5. Your Rights below for further information.

In some circumstances we may anonymise your personal data (so that it can no longer be associated with you) for research or statistical purposes in which case we may use this information indefinitely without further notice to you.

5. Your Rights

If you are located in certain countries, including those that fall under the scope of the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), data protection laws give you rights with respect to your personal data, subject to any exemptions provided by the law, including the rights to:

  • Request access to your personal data;
  • Request correction or deletion of your personal data;
  • Object to our use and processing of your personal data;
  • Request that we limit our use and processing of your personal data; and
  • Request portability of your personal data.

You can usually access, correct, or delete your personal data using your account settings and tools that we offer, but if you aren’t able to do that, or you would like to contact us about one of the other rights, you can email webmaster@safestart.com or write us at Electrolab Ltd., PO Box 320, Belleville, Ontario, Canada K8N 5A5.

EU individuals also have the right to make a complaint to a government supervisory authority.

6. Electrolab’s Policy Towards Children

Electrolab’s Services are not directed to persons under 13. If you become aware that your child has provided Electrolab with personal information without your consent, please contact us. Electrolab does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If Electrolab becomes aware that a child under 13 has provided Electrolab with personal information, Electrolab takes steps to remove such information and terminate the child’s account.

7. Changes to this Policy

We may revise this Policy from time to time. The most current version of the policy will govern Electrolab’s use of your information and will always be at https://safestart.com/privacy. If Electrolab makes a change to this policy that, in Electrolab’s sole discretion, is material, Electrolab will notify you via safestart.com or email to the email address associated with your account. By continuing to access or use the Services after those changes become effective, you agree to be bound by the revised Privacy Policy.
