David Sears

SSAB

After serving a term in the U.S. Army, David started his career in the steel industry as a mechanic/welder in the Rolling Mill at SSAB’s Iowa facility in 2001.

In 2004, he became a shift supervisor and was responsible for the maintenance items through the Rolling, Finishing, and Shipping departments.

David then assumed Maintenance Planner responsibilities in 2013, which included working with vendors, as well as planning and executing outage projects.

In 2015, he moved to Technical Services as a Six Sigma Black Belt, successfully completing several improvement projects before taking on the role of the Rolling Mill Operations Manager in 2018.

In December of 2020, SSAB opted to take a fresh direction with safety and David was selected as the new Safety Manager for the Iowa facility. His success in that role, provided him the opportunity for his current role as the Safety Director of several facilities.

David is a member of AIST, SMA, AISI and serves on the Don B. Daily Memorial selection team, awarding scholarships and grants to those enrolled in college safety programs.
