Nominate Canada’s Safest Employer for Young Workers Today!

A new generation of engineers in a metal sheet factory. Studying work methods from supervisors or colleagues and studying by yourself be taught professionally

Keeping everyone safe at work can seem like a thankless task at times, which makes it all the more worthwhile to celebrate outstanding achievements in the field of workplace safety.

This year, SafeStart is partnering with Canadian Occupational Safety magazine to present the SafeStart Award for Canada’s Safest Employer for Young Workers. The award will recognize an employer who has demonstrated outstanding efforts to protect workers aged 25 and younger.

The Safest Employer Award website says it best:

“Young workers are hurt at a disproportionate rate and organizations need to put unique practices in place to engage, train and mentor young workers.

This award recognizes an organization in any industry that has innovated in ways to do this and has displayed exemplary health and safety practices specifically targeted to workers under the age of 25.”

It’s vitally important that we protect the younger members of our workforce. Young workers are statistically more likely to be injured due to lack of experience and may be more susceptible to additional human factors like overconfidence and distraction. New hires, many of whom are in their early twenties or late teens, are even more at risk, facing the additional safety challenges inherent to the first 90 days on a job. Companies that prioritize this demographic’s safety deserve to be celebrated.

We encourage all employers who are dedicated to protecting young workers to nominate themselves or others for Canada’s Safest Employer for Young Workers. Nominations are only open until April 19 so get your application filled out today!

The full list of awards includes recognitions for rising stars in the industry, employer of the year, and the safest employer in a number of different sectors giving you additional opportunities to be recognized for your specific achievements. The awards will be presented on October 10, 2024, at a gala at the Liberty Grand in Toronto.

We’re excited to celebrate employers who are dedicated to protecting young workers, and we’re especially grateful for everyone who takes the extra effort to care for employees who are 25 or younger. If you think that describes you or your workplace, be sure to fill out the application form in the next two weeks.
