SafeStart Training Hits the Ice

SafeStart sponsors the Team Walker men's curling team

With the start of curling season upon us, SafeStart is pleased to sponsor Team Walker, a men’s curling team that will compete in the upcoming Ontario Curling Tour.

The team is made up of Jake Walker, Dayna Deruelle, Andrew McGaugh and Michael McGaugh. Between them, they have 3 National Championships, 6 Provincial Curling Championships, 32 previous Provincial Championship appearances and 4 National Championship appearances.

Last year Team Walker finished fourth in Ontario in their first year of men’s eligiblilty, and will be working with two nationally certified coaches to improve on last year’s impressive results.

Team Walker has already completed SafeStart training and we’re happy to know that their new safety awareness will help keep them safe on and off the ice as they play in bonspiels across southern Ontario and western Canada.

Today Team Walker begins the journey to the Ontario provincial championship by competing in KW Fall Classic, and we wish them success in their upcoming matches. And for those of you who are taking up curling for the first time, check out this infographic on how to safely walk on ice—it could help you avoid a nasty spill!
