SafeStart ASSE Scholarship Applications Now Open

Young woman excited about winning online

The application process for the SafeStart ASSE scholarship is open until December 1, 2017. Students of occupational safety and EHS professionals continuing their education are encouraged to submit their application online for a chance to receive the $5,000 scholarship.

The SafeStart ASSE scholarship is available to students graduating in May 2018 or later. They must be pursuing an undergraduate degree in OSH or a related field, with a minimum 3.0 GPA and 60 credit hours earned prior to submitting their application. Graduate students enrolled in an OSH safety program may also apply but they must maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA. Applications will be reviewed in early 2018 until March 31 and the award announcement takes place immediately after, on April 1.

Clinton Combs of Murray State University was the 2016 winner of the ASSE Foundation SafeStart scholarship. We recently followed up with Clinton and here’s what he had to say about winning the scholarship:

Receiving the SafeStart ASSE scholarship was an honor and a pivotal part of my undergraduate education. The scholarship helped to cover extra educational costs I experienced, after exhausting a previous grant I had received. The help from the SafeStart ASSE scholarship helped me to cross the finish line in my undergraduate safety education. I am thankful to the folks at SafeStart and ASSE for their commitment to the education of future safety practitioners. I would highly encourage all safety students to apply for the SafeStart ASSE scholarship. In addition, I would encourage students, as you grow in your safety profession, give back to the future of our profession, like SafeStart has!

Clinton is currently finishing his Masters of Science in Economic Development and will graduate this December. In addition, he is currently employed as an Associate Risk Advisor for a regional insurance agency. We wish Clinton a successful future as a leader in the safety industry and we’d like to help another aspiring EHS professional, like him, reach their dreams.
