SafeStart is about preventing injuries caused by unintentional human error, but these workshops also demonstrate the other company-wide benefits it brings, including financial savings and improvements in morale, productivity, quality and team communication.
The primary objective of the 2-Day Workshops is to give participants the opportunity to fully evaluate the SafeStart process and how it prevents unintentional injuries. You and your stakeholder group will be able to form an assessment based on injury reduction capabilities, financial return on investment, implementation structure and client results. Essentially you will gather an understanding of what SafeStart is, how it works, why it works and how it will work for you.
First, we deliver an in-depth overview of the concepts, techniques and learning design used in SafeStart to improve the safety awareness and skills of employees on- and off-the-job. It’s not about safety compliance, rules, procedures, or engineering—it’s about improving personal safety skills so people can avoid incidents before they occur. In self-discovery, instructor-led and group exercises, you will learn about real versus perceived risk and human factors in primary incident causation, including the four critical errors that lead to most injuries and the four states (rushing, frustration, fatigue and complacency) people are frequently in when they make those errors. More importantly, you will learn four critical error reduction techniques (CERTs) to combat those states and errors.
Following the overview, you will be guided through two units—experiencing SafeStart as your employees will during their training. To conclude day one, participants are prepared for day two with unit and partner assignments, instructions and expectations.
On the second day, you will learn about critical long-term success factors including leadership, steering committee, sustainability programs and the overall process of integrating SafeStart into your safety management system. Each workshop participant will also teach the course “hands-on” to a peer group with guidance and instruction from the workshop leader. You will have the opportunity to review specific questions and challenges with an experienced SafeStart consultant while seeing how the course will be implemented in your workplace.
